Duquesa Golf and Country Club.

The Costa del Sol, recently renamed the Costa del Golf, is an absolute paradise for golfers of all standards. Offering some world-class golf courses in some beautiful locations combined with the highest number of sunshine days per year in Europe it is hard to beat. Plentiful and cheap flights to Malaga, Gibraltar and now Jerez make it accessible all the year round and, not content to rest on it’s laurels, new golf courses and academies are being opened up on a regular basis which is why so many golfers return here year after year as there are always new and exciting challenges.

Duquesa Country club is located between Marbella and Sotogrande, in the Urbanization of El Hacho in Manilva, the club was founded in 1989. Since then it has been visited by countless golf lovers from around the world who enjoy its facilities and the pleasure of playing golf in such a wonderful setting by the sea. La Duquesa Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones has some wonderful Mediterranean views out to North Africa and Gibraltar.

Duquesa Golf and Country Club

It is probably the most complete club on the coast offering tennis, swimming pool, squash, gym etc. along with the picturesque Duquesa Port just across the road. There is also an excellent bar and restaurant, and not forgetting of course the world class and demanding golf course itself, varied enough for novices and professionals alike.

La Duquesa Golf Club also has the advantage of being situated directly by Duquesa Port, placing you in the great position of being able to enjoy the bars and numerous restaurants of the marina, as well as its blue flag beaches and wide array of water sports on offer.

Duquesa’s excellent golf course is settled in a spectacular landscape. It is a 72 par course with 18 very entertaining holes that will give you the opportunity to enjoy a round of golf under the sun with breezes from the Mediterranean.

This Robert Trent Jones design is a demanding course with difficult roughs and large, greenside bunkers, it requires concentration and straight driving. The course is in two distinctive half’s, the first nine holes are of an English style with long and narrow fairways and elevated greens with number 4 being the most interesting, a pretty hole, par 4 with magnificent views which may interfere with your card.

The second half has wider fairways making the course a little easier, although one must be aware of the bunkers that protect the greens. The La Duquesa golf course geography makes evident the presence of steep hills and difficulties in the tee shots.

At the spectacular 17th, a par 3 just 129 mts from tee to green but 30 mts straight down, you should beware of the wind, especially if it is blowing from the west.

The signature Hole Number Eight is where you can realize that it would be very difficult to combine the Landscape and the design of a golf course in such harmony as La Duquesa. Good course management will win over power on this golf course.
